Meow Wolf
Bandelier National Monument
Canyon Road
With attractions like Meow Wolf, beautiful artistry along Canyon Road, and sweeping views from bandelier National monument, it’s no wonder Santa Fe, New Mexico calls itself “The City Different”.
Meow Wolf
Meow Wolf (yes, you read the name right) was our top experience in Santa Fe, and one of the top 3 experiences of our travels thus far (up there with the Synchronous Firefly event and the Elk Rut in Rocky Mountain National Park).
Although it is not a nature event, it is something creatively unique and special. We had so much fun that we went twice!
The best way we can explain Meow Wolf is to imagine the show “Stranger Things” in the style of an artistic escape room. The story associated with the experience is highly intriguing and engaging, and we were amazed at how well they are able to blend together the craft of so many talented artists with such varied backgrounds.
The Meow Wolf art collective originally started their art installations / experiences in a former barber shop. They received an upgrade when George R.R. Martin (“Game of Thrones” author and resident of Santa Fe, NM) saw potential and decided to provide financial assistance for the purchase and conversion of a bowling alley, which is now the Meow Wolf Art Complex.
You can truly spend hours inside this wonderland and struggle to find all of the hidden treasures that await. Whether you enjoy the experience simply for the art or dig into the depths of the story, we believe there is adventure to be found for every one.
We have a ton of fun pictures and videos from Meow Wolf, but we won’t post them here because we don’t want to spoil the experience for others.
Bandelier National Monument
There is a ton of beauty and history at Bandelier National Monument. There are a variety of trails available, ranging from family friendly strolls through the valley to more adventurous routes. One trail requires a suppressed fear of heights, as you must climb a series of wooden ladders to reach Alcove House (formerly known as Ceremonial Cave) at 140 feet above the floor of Frijoles Canyon. The view from the top is worth the climb! We were blessed with pretty weather, so we took our time and soaked in our surroundings.
Canyon Road
Santa Fe has a thriving art scene and Canyon Road is a well known art district. We enjoyed perusing the art galleries and stopped to enjoy a glass of wine and fun conversation with other travelers at Cafe Des Artistes. We highly recommend strolling through the area when visiting Santa Fe.
